Jacky Mares is a third year and is majoring in Health Science with the option of Community. Jacky was a Biology major before but decided to changed to Health Science this year when she talked to one of the career counselors at school. She didn’t have any career in mind but all the careers that interested her were in Health Science so decided to switch. Jacky now wants to become a Genetic Counselor and help families understand their pregnancy risks due to their family health history and genetics.
Jacky was born and raised in Compton and is still currently living there with her family. She decided to stay at home and commute instead of dorming since she lives pretty close to CSULB and wants to be able to help out her family at home. During her free time, Jacky likes to hang out with her friends and go to concerts. She went to her first ever concert in her senior year of high school. She has been hooked ever since then. She wants to travel around the world in order to try many different kinds of food and to going to concerts for bands and artists that she likes who have not traveled to America yet.
Since she was a child, Jacky’s goal in life was to help people and the way she plants to do that is through the medical field. She wants to be able to support herself and her family but also do something she loves doing for the rest of her life. Jacky was really nice and friendly and I had a great time talking to her. I wish her all the best in her future endeavors and hope she is able to accomplish her goals in life!
